Zein Daouk: when architecture meets clay

Zein Daouk: when architecture meets clay

In a city often defined by chaos, Lebanese architect and ceramic artist Zein Daouk finds order through clay. A material that has accompanied her since childhood, becoming a way to express ideas, explore curiosity and tell stories beyond words.

Her architectural background brings structure to her practice, yet clay follows its own rules. Cracks, shrinkage and the unpredictable nature of fire continually reshape her creations, challenging the balance between control and spontaneity.

Working with earth, water, air and fire, Zein explores the relationship between form, function and sculpture. Her biomorphic pieces carry subtle asymmetries and hidden narratives, shaped as much by the material itself as by the hands of their maker.

For Zein, the beauty of ceramics lies not in achieving perfection, but in understanding the material well enough to accept the unexpected. A practice that requires patience, observation and the ability to slow down, allowing each piece to become something beyond its original intention.
