Montroi Artisan Collective: Angeliki Stamatakou

The Montroi Artisan Collective brings together artisans whose work reflects craftsmanship, heritage, and culture. The Montroi team travels the world to discover artisans and create a global community where traditional craft is shared and carried across generations.

During one of Montroi's nomadic journeys, the team visited the studio of Greek ceramic artist Angeliki Stamatakou in Glyfada.

United by a shared appreciation for Greek culture and heritage, the encounter revealed a creative vision deeply rooted in the country's landscapes, traditions and natural beauty.

For Angeliki, ceramics are not designed; they are discovered. Every sculpture begins with clay and curiosity. Rather than controlling the material, she allows it to guide the process, only recognising her own thoughts and emotions once the piece is complete. Each creation becomes a reflection of a unique moment in time, one that can never be repeated.

Raised in Greece and originally trained as a pharmacist, her path first followed science. It was only after discovering clay that she found another way of understanding the world. Today, these two disciplines naturally converge, where scientific precision meets artistic intuition, shaping every piece she creates.

For Angeliki, craftsmanship is not simply about mastering a technique. Technique can be learned, but authenticity cannot. The moment creation becomes an honest expression rather than an attempt to please others, something shifts. Making becomes a way of understanding oneself as much as the material. And craft is part of human nature. A way of expressing what words cannot, and of discovering who we are through what we make.
