The spirit of Big Sky

Under the vast skies of Big Sky, Montana, nature reveals its quiet strength and the landscape moves through extremes. Winter settles in silence, covering the terrain in snow, softening sound and slowing movement. Forests stand still under weight, and the air sharpens with cold clarity.

 Long before roads crossed the region, tribes travelled across these territories following bison routes, seasons, and rivers, carrying with them stories, objects, and knowledge between vast distances. 

 While moving through Montana, the Montroi team encountered ranchers who spoke of how this relationship to movement still shapes life across the region. Journeys continue to follow the land itself, stretching on horseback across open pastures, forests, and mountain terrain, where distance and isolation remain less something to overcome than something quietly preserved.
